When the Coronavirus first hit Wales, Willis Systems was called upon to expedite their ongoing work for the new Specialist Critical Care Center (SCCC) at The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran. This hospital was originally scheduled to open in 2021, but the opening was pushed forward in anticipation of extra beds required to care for patients infected by Covid-19.
Being part of such an endeavor inspired the designers at Willis Systems to think about what else they could do to help community members fighting the virus. Having thirty years’ experience designing washrooms, they focused on the critical need for employees across industry sectors to wash their hands as an integral part of the plan to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
Willis Systems worked with their partners at Arnold Laver and C&D Leeds to design a purpose made medical solution for field hospitals. The designers came up with a solid surface vanity top, including seamless integral basin and rear coved upstand, which is NHS compliant. Solid surface material is the ideal solution because it is non-porous and does not promote the growth of bacteria. The seamless design also eliminates germ traps that harbor bacteria. Solid surface material has added benefits being easily cleaned and repaired.
Willis Systems’ hand wash station comes complete with Armitage Shanks Markwik 21 lever bib mixer, which conforms to HBN 00.10, HBN 00.09 and HTM-04-01 Addendum 2013. It is fitted with a Bioguard outlet, reducing the opportunity for bio film attachment and is lined with anti-microbial copper.
Willis Systems’ hand wash basin design is perfect not only for the healthcare industry, but also for construction sites where additional hand washing precautions will be required as job sites re-open. These mobile units are also the ideal handwashing solution for the food industry including food stands, farmers markets and other outdoor events. Each unit is manufactured to the customer’s specifications making child-sized sink units available for day care centres and schools to meet their hand washing requirements.
All hand wash stations feature a shelved cupboard providing generous storage for cleaning supplies, paper towels and hand sanitizer. Cam locks can be added to the storage cupboard if required.
Willis Systems’ mobile hand wash basins are built in works and delivered on site ready to plug and go. They include flexible connections which allow some movement during installation. The units are built on industrial grade castors, while front castors are lockable to minimise the risk of accidental movement.
Basins are offered in two shapes and a TMV3 thermostatic clinical mixer tap is included as standard.
A selection of stainless steel or white plastic towel and sanitiser dispensers are offered as an optional extra to meet customers’ specifications.
